Plant-based foods: the Paris Economic Court confirms the legality of marketing a “vegetable” steak subject to fair communication, by Julia Bombardier, Attorney at Law

In line with the “TofuTown” and “Vegetable Proteins” rulings handed down by the Court of Justice of the European Union and, more recently, by the Council of State, the Paris Economic Court confirmed, in a ruling dated February 27, 2025, that names associated with animal products may be used to designate plant-based foods, but reiterated that the term “meat” cannot be used to designate such foods.
